iGUESS-MED DSS training course. Akdeniz University, Antalya (Turkey). 10.9.2024
On the second day of the project’s closing meeting, held from September 9-11, 2024, a training session was conducted. 20 participants from various departments of Akdeniz University (researchers and students), farmers and public institutions attended the training. Presentations included the "iGUESS-MED DSS" by Antonio Affinito and Emanuele Varriale (EVJA), Prof. Marisa Gallardo (UAL - Spain) for the VegSyst model (soil cultivation), and Prof. Luca Incrocci (UNIPI - Italy) for the Symulhydro model (soilless cultivation). Additionally, Turkish translations of the Hands on guidelines Integrated Pest Management Protocols and Integrated Disease Management Protocols, were distributed to the participants.







He is cofounder and CTO of EVJA company. He is an electronic engineer and has more than 15 years of experience in designing, prototypes development and industrialization of complex telecommunication systems. He has been working for one of the largest manufacturers of radars in the world “Finmeccanica”, and has international experience in managing technical teams, from development and design until the field operating system.
Antonio Affinito (EVJA)

He works as a data scientist at EVJA company. He holds a Master’s degree in Data Science and a background in theoretical Physics. He has experience in computational modeling, data analysis, and algorithm optimization. Currently working in precision agriculture, he develops predictive models for crop diseases and irrigation management. He has also skills in machine learning, big data technologies, and software development.
Emanuele Varriale (EVJA)

She is a full professor at the Department of Agronomy, University of Almeria in Almeria, Spain. Her current teaching activities focus on irrigation scheduling in greenhouse vegetable crops and crop modeling with applications for water and nitrogen management, with the majority of her teaching conducted at the Master's level. Her research activities are primarily centered on crop modeling and the optimization of water and nitrogen management in vegetable crops cultivated in Mediterranean greenhouses.
Prof. Marisa Gallardo (UAL)

He is a Professor in the Department of Agronomy at the University of Pisa, Italy, specializing in protected horticulture and soilless crop cultivation. With 25 years of research experience, his work has primarily focused on irrigation management and fertilization of soilless crops. He has also developed two dedicated software programs to advance practices in this field.
